Abstract
Electoral systems are among the most important legal and political institutions in every democratic countries. In recent years, various and numerous researches and studies that were conducted by political science researchers on the electoral system in different countries   obviously have shown that the institution of electoral systems has profound and long lasting effects on different aspects of political life of a country. In our country, despite the paramount importance of electoral systems, there have not still been comprehensive and thorough researches and studies on the type of electoral system employed in previous elections after Islamic Revolution and also on political repercussions and effects of such systems. In this paper, attempts have been made that in addition to studying different types of electoral systems that are being used in democratic countries worldwide, the types of electoral systems implemented in previous elections after Islamic revolution be investigated.  This results reveal that the electoral system employed in parliamentary election in Iran has been a two-round electoral system which is an instance of majority electoral systems.
