Abstract

In the last two or three decades, the concept of the political through the lens of political philosophy has received special attention, which indicates the dynamism and life of political philosophy in a different form from its more classical forms. One of the thinkers who tried to examine the nature of politics from an ontological perspective during his career was Chantal Mouffe. The main question of this article is, what is the political thing according to Chantal Mouffe? And how has he achieved an agonistic understanding of the political issue in the dialogue or debate with other contemporary political schools? At the same time, by criticizing the theory of liberalism and Marxism on the one hand, and on the other hand, inspired by Schmitt's concept of antagonism, and an intellectual conflict with a wide range of thinkers such as Habermas, John Rawls and others, Chantal Mouffe has been able to present a new definition of the political. which he himself called agonism. In his opinion, from an ontological point of view, politics is nothing but an agonistic attempt to control the antagonism that is always present in politics and social relations. The method of this article is descriptive-analytical and is mostly based on the process and how to present a philosophical definition of the political thing, which at the same time answers the question that political philosophy is still alive in its ontological sense.
