Nationalism theories, especially modernist constructivism, often overlook the temporal-spatial influences, characteristics, and the role of Iranian society in shaping nationalism, its various tendencies, and complexities during the Islamic Republic era. During this period, diverse intellectual forces interacted and confronted each other within society, leading to different interpretations of nationalism. The concept of ummah was challenged during the reform era and afterwards, with Iranian identity being depicted through Shi'ism as a key element, particularly emphasized in Ahmadinejad's Iranian School. This created divergences among various political factions and ethnic regions, which were addressed during Rouhani's administration. The aim of this research is to understand and examine the constructed nationalisms during the Islamic Republic and how they were redefined through interactions with the theory of ummah as a foundational identity of the Islamic Republic. The theoretical framework of this study is social constructivism. The findings indicate that post-reform era saw the emergence of different interpretations of nationalism that acted as parallel currents to ummah within society and intellectual discourse, resulting in a plurality of thought and a dialectic among various movements.
